Brophy stands firmly in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community, especially those who are non-binary, transgender and gender diverse.
All young people deserve to feel safe, empowered and celebrated and to have their rights respected and upheld.
We recognise that the events over the weekend and other similar events increase stress, risk and complexity in the lives of LGBTIQA+ young people and their peers, families, friends and carers, and also for our staff members working with LGBTIQA+ young people.
We note the strong and categorical statement of condemnation made by the Premier, and also by the Parliamentary Secretary for Skills and Training, and thank the Victorian Government for this important leadership.
