About the Role:

As the Team Leader – Child and Family Services, you’ll oversee a dedicated team committed to enhancing the safety, stability, and well-being of children, young people, and families across Southwest Victoria. Leading the coordination and delivery of several essential programs, funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), you’ll directly impact lives through initiatives focused on early intervention, family reunification, and empowering youth toward positive outcomes.

This role requires a compassionate leader skilled in case management, in-home support, and family work, with a deep understanding of the legislative landscape surrounding child and family services. You’ll manage a caseload within the Integrated Family Services (IFS) suite, ensuring that each family receives tailored, responsive support. Key programs you’ll oversee include the Integrated Family Services Program, Adolescent Support, Finding Solutions, Targeted Care Packages, the Who’s in Charge Program among others—all aimed at strengthening family dynamics and promoting safe, nurturing environments for young people.  You will also have supervision of the Family Preservation and Reunification Practitioner working closely with our partner agencies.

In this position, you’ll also work closely with Child Protection and various community partners, building individualised, innovative solutions for each family.

A full list of key duties is outlined in the Position Description, but includes responsibilities in:

  • Undertaking research, service mapping, needs analysis and program evaluation to meet best practice and inform program planning and implementation.
  • Leading and effectively administering the programs’ services in accordance with program service plans, service agreements and funding body requirements, including providing operational support to the staff within the programs.
  • Ensuring a professional and ethical standard of care and service provision according to the philosophy of Brophy Family and Youth Services.
  • Providing supervision and support to team members.
  • Engaging with and supporting children, young people and their families using a variety of engagement strategies such as assertive engagement, outreach, persistence, and pacing.
  • Acting as Line Manager as required.

Do your skills include:

  • Demonstrating a sound understanding of issues confronting disadvantaged and vulnerable children, young people and their families, particularly clients within the child protection system.
  • The ability to make timely, sound decisions and assessments regarding children, youth and families, particularly under pressure.
  • An understanding of the impact of developmental trauma on children and young people.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to facilitate a team approach to achieve service objectives.

Are your credentials:

  • A minimum qualification of a sector recognised and accredited Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent. (Qualifications must be approved by recognised professional bodies: ie. AASW, APS etc.)
  • A current Drivers Licence.
