About the Role:

At Brophy, we believe change starts with someone who sees what’s possible and creates the path to get there. As our Therapeutic Residential Care – Practitioner, you’ll play a role in providing a safe, nurturing, and empowering home for children and young people with complex needs, many of whom have experienced significant trauma. This is a dynamic and rewarding role, where your care, commitment, and presence make a real difference every day.

We have multiple part time (.7EFT) ongoing roles available where you will act as the primary carer, offering consistency, structure, and a sense of being valued. You will provide hands-on therapeutic support, helping children and young people navigate challenging emotions, build healthy relationships, and develop skills to thrive in life. Supporting connections with family, friends, and the wider community is also a key part of your role, alongside ensuring their rights and wellbeing are always protected.

These role involves active participation in team care planning, supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development, including trauma-informed training such as TCI, TCI/F, and Power to Kids. You’ll also contribute to maintaining a comfortable, safe, and well-organised home environment, from meal planning and preparation to household upkeep, while facilitating opportunities for learning, recreation, and community engagement.

These positions requires resilience and the ability to respond calmly and professionally to behaviours that may include aggression and emotional dysregulation. A full overview of day-to-day responsibilities, safety considerations, and OVA risks will be provided during the interview process.

You’ll join a skilled, supportive team that values collaboration, reflective practice, and seeing the potential in every child. This is challenging but also rewarding work. If you’re ready to bring your empathy, energy, and commitment to help children and young people flourish, we’d love to hear from you.

What we’re looking for:

  • Passion for supporting children and young people to reach their full potential.
  • Resilience, patience, and the ability to respond to behaviours including aggression and emotional dysregulation.
  • Ability to work within a therapeutic team, embracing reflection, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
  • Commitment to child safety, equity, cultural safety, and wellbeing.
  • Physical capability to respond to crisis situations.

Are your Credentials:

  • A minimum of a Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention or other similar/relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Completion of, or willingness to complete, the following mandatory units of competency:
    • CHCMHS007 – Work effectively in trauma informed care
    • CHCPRT009 – Provide primary residential care
    • CHCCCS009 – Facilitate responsible behaviour
    • CHCPRT010 – Work with children and young people with complex trauma and attachment issues and needs
  • A Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI 7) certification or willingness to upgrade to TCI 7 if a lower-level TCI certification is currently held.
    • Where TCI 7 (or lower level) certification is not held, the incumbent must provide evidence of successful completion of Risk Assessment and De-escalation Training and demonstrate a willingness to undertake internal TCI training to meet requirements within the first six months of employment.
  • Willingness to undertake before employment and maintain valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificates.
  • A current Drivers Licence.

This role may include shift work across a 24/7 roster and may include sleepover shifts.  A full list of key duties can be found in the Position Description.
