Brophy will deliver the popular Who’s In Charge and Shark Cage programs in Portland through 2026 as part of the Resilient Families Project.
The project, free and proudly supported by Alcoa, will support families, women and children across the Portland District.
Who’s In Charge is an 8-week group program for parents or caregivers of young people (8 to 18 years).
There can be flexibility to deliver aspects of the program to the parents one on one and provide support with home activities.
Who‘s In Charge focuses on:
- A supportive environment to share experiences and ideas
- Clarifying boundaries of what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour
- Reducing feelings of isolation, shame and guilt, which most parents feel
- Exploring ways of increasing safety and well-being
Shark Cage is an eight week evidence based program explores common types of abuse that women experience and how this abuse relates to violations in human rights. It is a manualised program that can be used in group or individual settings. This program is relevant for women who have experienced more than one instance of abuse in their lives and may have begun to internalise social messages of victim blaming.
Shark Cage focuses on:
- Learning about the impacts of trauma, how to manage strong emotions
- Building a sense of empowerment and exploring characteristics of healthy relationships
- Supporting healing and creating a new, strong and positive sense of self and rights.
