About the Role

As our Senior Practitioner, you’ll play a crucial leadership role in delivering high-quality support to vulnerable children, young people, and families, helping to create safer, stronger, and more connected communities. This is your opportunity to lead with purpose, guiding a dedicated team while shaping innovative, flexible programs that truly meet the unique needs of each client.
You will be the bridge between your team, community partners, and key stakeholders, building vital relationships that enhance the reach and effectiveness of our services. With your expertise in relevant legislation and your understanding of young people’s pathways in education and employment, you’ll ensure our programs deliver real, lasting outcomes.
From early intervention and family preservation to targeted care and reunification, you’ll be involved in diverse programs that make a tangible difference. Your leadership will empower families to thrive, reduce the need for out-of-home care, and support parents navigating the challenges of raising young people.

To be successful in this role you must possess a strong understanding of relevant legislation related to young people, education, and employment. You will be required to build and maintain relationships with community contacts, stakeholders, and funding partners to drive positive outcomes for clients within the Family Services programs.

A full list of key duties is outlined in the Position Description, but includes responsibilities in:

  • Assist the Team Leader to effectively administer the programs services in accordance with program service plans, service agreements and funding body requirements, including providing operational support to the staff in the programs.
  • Provide 1:1 counselling and family work to vulnerable children, young people and their families
  • Undertake case management and case work including:
    • intake,
    • assessment,
    • case/care planning,
    • case coordination,
    • supported referrals,
    • case reviews and
    • case closure.

Do your skills include:

  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, mentoring, supervising and supporting staff.
  • A sound understanding of issues confronting disadvantaged children, young people and their families, particularly clients involved with the child protection system. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the child protection system and its role in the service system. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to demonstrate experience in liaising with a diverse range of clients.

Are your credentials:

  • A minimum qualification of a sector recognised and accredited Bachelor of Social Work or Diploma in Community Services or equivalent. (Qualifications must be approved by recognised professional bodies: ie. AASW, CWA, APS etc.) 
  • A Current  Drivers Licence and willingness to drive.
