Hamilton’s four-legged friends are taking centre stage this October as headspace Hamilton hosts a community Pooch Picnic at the Botanic Gardens Gazebo.
The event coincides with headspace Day and World Mental Health Day, recognising the important role pets play in supporting our mental health and wellbeing. It will run on Friday, October 10 from 3pm–5pm.

“We know pets bring comfort, companionship, and joy into our lives, and this event is about celebrating that connection while also highlighting the supports headspace Hamilton offers to young people,” headspace Hamilton Community Awareness and Engagement Worker Emily Anderson said.

The Pooch Picnic is a free family-friendly event, featuring:

  • A pet parade with prizes
  • Therapy animal information sessions
  • Pet photo portraits
  • Fun activities for young people and families

All pets are welcome but must be on a leash and be both animal and child friendly.
“We’d love to see the community come together, have some fun, and take a moment to reflect on the positive impact pets can have on our wellbeing,” Emily said.

“The idea has been conceived by our Youth Reference Group which is so important – ensuring we have a youth voice in all we do.”

The Pooch Picnic is open to all, with no registration required.
