Francis Broekman

Brophy CEO Francis Broekman will retire in August after 30 years of dedicated leadership.

His tenure as Chief Executive has shaped Brophy into one of the region’s most trusted community service providers.

Francis joined Brophy in 1991, when the organisation had just seven staff, two programs, and a budget of $400,000.

Under his leadership, Brophy has grown significantly, establishing offices in Warrnambool, Hamilton, and Portland, and delivering a wide range of services including youth mental health, family violence support, housing and homelessness assistance, out-of-home care, and programs for young people.

Today, Brophy is the region’s largest place-based community service provider, employing more than 170 staff, operating with an annual budget of $24 million, and delivering over 40 programs.

The organisation supports children, young people, families, and communities across south-west Victoria, including the local government areas of Warrnambool, Moyne, Corangamite, Glenelg, Southern Grampians, Horsham, and West Wimmera.

“It has been a privilege to serve as CEO. I am so proud of the work we do and our team who delivers it—day in, day out—with care, energy, and professionalism,” Francis said.

Brophy is in a really strong position. We’ve built a stable, values-based organisation with the right people, systems, and partnerships to keep growing and adapting. That gives me confidence about stepping away—I know our work will continue with integrity and purpose.

“Supporting people in our community to create the life they want has always been our focus and something that has driven our staff from day one. It’s something we’ve never lost sight of.”

In retirement, Francis is looking forward to spending time with his two grandchildren, working on a renovation project and pursuing a love of cycling—including a rail trail adventure in Japan later this year.

The Board and Executive Leadership Team are now working together to support a smooth transition.
