At Brophy, we know leadership isn’t about titles or job descriptions — it’s about how we show up for each other every day. That’s why our Leadership and Culture Group has spent the past six months in a program that gave us plenty to think about, and some really practical tools to use with our teams.
Across the sessions, we dug into five big themes:
-
Leadership Non-Negotiables – setting the tone with clarity, courage, consistency, culture, and coaching.
-
The Art of Feedback – how to give and receive feedback in ways that build trust and help people grow.
-
Building High-Performing Teams – finding, developing and keeping great talent, and creating spaces where people do their best work.
-
Coaching and Guiding – shifting from “command and control” to curiosity and listening.
-
Leading Beyond Resilience – moving beyond just bouncing back, to learning how to thrive in uncertainty and change.
The sessions were hands-on and gave everyone a chance to reflect on their own leadership. From practicing tricky conversations, to thinking about what really motivates people, to realising that the right kind of stress can actually push us to grow — there were plenty of lightbulb moments.
What professional development looks like at Brophy
For us, professional development isn’t about ticking boxes or sitting through slides. It’s about conversations, reflection, and trying out new approaches that make a difference in the day-to-day. Leaders were encouraged to ask things like: What gets in the way of me being a good leader? How can I make things clearer for my team? What’s one action I can take today to build more trust?
That’s what we want professional development at Brophy to feel like — practical, people-focused, and connected to the work we do and the communities we serve.
We’re excited to keep building on this work in the years ahead, helping our teams grow stronger and supporting even better outcomes for the families and young people we work alongside. Interested in joining our team? Apply now!
