Youth Mental Health Worker – headspace Hamilton (Multiple Positions)

About the Role

Our Hamilton Youth Mental Health Worker will be responsible for the delivery of a range of evidence-based interventions and youth-friendly models that facilitate early help-seeking behaviour, and seamless access to early intervention health and wellbeing services across the headspace’s four core service platforms.

The position will maintain a client caseload, and deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate and family-inclusive services that support young people and their families and friends, to build their knowledge and skills to improve their mental health wellbeing and resilience. In this role, you are required to have a sound knowledge of the practice frameworks, principles and processes of relevant legislation pertaining to young people at risk, establish appropriate community contacts, as well as develop and maintain professional working relationships and provide customer service to a diverse range of young people who are at risk of physical health, mental health, AoD, and vocational and educational problems.

The role requires the ability to travel throughout the Hamilton region and the delivery of an outreach service where required, as well as the ability to make sound decisions, in some instances in crisis or stressful situations, whilst maintaining confidential and professional boundaries.

 

Do your skills include:

  • Experience using a range of assessment tools with young people to determine their health, wellbeing, social, vocational and educational needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver evidence-based therapeutic early interventions within the approved scope of practice, to young people and their supports, including single-session and brief intervention therapies.
  • Develop and coordinate delivery of activity-based recreational and therapeutic group programs to support young people’s access to services and transitional pathways to achieve their goals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including schools, and other agencies and services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, standards, policies, practices, and procedures.

Are your credentials:

  • A minimum qualification of a sector recognised and accredited Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nurse or Counsellor. Qualifications must be approved by recognised professional bodies: g. AASW, AHPRA, ACA, APS etc. Eligibility to pursue accredited pathways is highly desired.
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in a mental health-focused environment, preferably with young people.
  • A current Drivers Licence.
